Trail in Sunlight Back to Nailsworth Index
The sunny trail picture is of the Nailworth Cycle trail not far from Dunkirk Mills. Originally the site was the Nailsworth/Stonehouse Railway. The first sod, surrounded by open green fields, was lifted in 1864 when cannons were fired on Nailsworth Hill. At a celebration dinner, Abraham Marsh Flint who owned the Nailsworth Mills and lived at "The Lawn", now Winslow House, said," They may call Nailsworth a village if they will, in future I shall call it a township". The railway closed down in 1961.
