Egypt Mill Back to Nailsworth Index
Egypt Mill is one of Nailsworth's oldest, dating from C16. Originally mills were approached by "pitches" which ran down the valley sides before the days of roads such as the A46, (originally a turnpike road) which follows the valley line. "Whitecroft Pitch" which served Egypt Mill is so called because it was on the route used to transport salt from the Midlands.

Egypt Mill got its name from a demanding owner who was nicknamed "Pharaoh". Easily accessible from today's A46 and close to the Cycle Trail, its restaurants are known far beyond Nailsworth. Food is freshly prepared by in house chefs. It is widely used as a conference and meeting centre. You can play Boules beside the pond.
