Behind the Terrace Back to Lake District Index
The Charlotte Mason College Estate was known as "Scale How". The College was for women only. Behind the buildings lay a lovely walking area called "The Terrace" from which we had the view which you see in this sketch. Note the footpath leading away from it. Today this is surrounded by a large housing estate which leads round to the left along the college boundary and back to the main road.

In many sketches, grey clouds figure. When I got home at the end of term I'd be asked, "Did you have a lot of rain?". In fact we were so accustomed to rain that we just got on with life, regardless, and I found that I was unable to answer the question!
