My husband Sidney's first job was as Lecturer in Music (the senior music position) at Armstrong College (later New College) Newcastle on Tyne, then part of Durham University, and the conductor of the Newcastle Bach Choir, both in succession to Dr W.G.Whittaker.

I remember in subsequent years paying a visit with him and being taken to Glorious Durham Cathedral. However having some time on my own, while he paid a visit, it was a little back corner which caught my attention. Today, when Durham is obviously a popular place to visit, I wonder if it still remains or whether it has been updated.
