In 1985 I first published a book called "A portrait of Nailsworth". Over the years I have also done a number of painted 'portraits' which have recently become known and have caused some interest. So an idea, supported by a Master of Engineering grandson who specialises in computing, that I should open a web site, became a reality.
Member of the Scottish Dicksons, a musical family, I actually went to Edinburgh Art College. My musical Professor husband Sidney Newman's ancestors all came from Nailsworth and his great ambition was to come home on retirement and, amongst other things, research Nailsworth's history. Unfortunately he died after about nine months. His private funeral in 1971 was the last service to take place in the Baptist Chapel before it became Christ Church. 2000 people filled Edinburgh's St Giles' Cathedral for his official memorial. The paintings date from 1970 and illustrate how things have moved on. |
